datascape: castle of dreams is a video work that explores the life-saving nature of friendship. This video was created during the height of the pandemic, when isolation threatened to kill us all. This work was created through a process of interviews and references cultural iconography such as Kingdom Hearts and Yu-Gi-Oh!, two series that hold friendships as an all-powerful and often life-saving resource.
The video calls on viewers to find comfort, reflect on their humanity, and witness a dreamscape of hope. datascape: castle of dreams premiered at Dance Place's virtual exhibition in October 2020, as well as during the premiere of VITAL, a dance event produced by myself, Jelani Taylor, and Taylor Bonadies.
